Hassen has played the guitar for 10 years now and knows what it means to stick with something in the face of a challenge since being diagnosed with an immune deficiency.

“I have to receive immunotherapy treatment each month that give me an artificial immune system,” he said. “Sometimes things are hard, but everything I’ve been through shaped me to be the person I am today.”

Now 17 years old, Hassen spends most of his time playing the guitar as a part of the band he created last year with his best friends.

“ I wished to have equipment for my band, so we can continue to improve and make music together,” said Hassen, who received a shopping spree for custom guitars, amps and other items on his wish list, plus a tour around Fender, the guitar manufacturer.

Since his wish, Hassen is healthier and grateful for the opportunity to meet and talk with so many new people in the music industry.

“I’m feeling a lot better and my wish has improved my quality of life,” said Hassen, who now only needs to see his immune specialist every six months. “ I don’t think my wish was about the material things I received, it’s about what I’ve gotten out of it and knowing that people really cared to make my wish special for me.”
