Dear Car Donation Foundation,
I would like to thank you for your thoughtful contribution to Make-A-Wish Middle Tennessee. Your gift of $3,408.54 was received on December 30,2019 and will help make wishes come true for Middle Tennessee children who face critical illnesses.
For seriously ill children, the wonder and delight of childhood can seem lost in routines of doctors, hospitals, and pain. But we can turn that around, helping children think beyond the experience of illnesses by bringing their most heartfelt wish to life. A wish gives children renewed energy and strength brings families closer together and unites communities. When a wish is granted, a child replaces fear with confidence, sadness with joy, and anxiety with hope.
Henry is a 16-year-old boy from Hendersonville who was enjoying being a normal teenage boy who loved playing baseball and swimming until he started to notice a shortness of breath and frequently feeling like he was going to faint. What they thought was going to be an iron deficiency turned out to be an Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia diagnosis, and their family’s “normal” quickly went away and became focused on Henry’s treatment. Since then, Henry has had 3 bone marrow aspirations, numerous spinal taps, many hospital stays, and countless chemotherapy treatments. Throughout treatment, Henry enjoyed watching the Yankees, so he knew exactly what he wanted his wish to be: to meet the New York Yankees. This summer, Henry’s wish was granted and he got to meet the team. His favorite part was meeting his favorite player, Aaron Judge, who treated him like a friend and gifted him one of his bats. Henry’s mom said,” IF we didn’t have Henry’s wish as part of his cancer journey, it would have been as bearable. Make-A-Wish has definitely been the bright light that helped us get through this trial.”
There are few experiences more powerful than making a wish come true. Thanks to your support, we are one step closer to creating life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.
Sincerely,
Beth Torres
